We grow and process just enough coffee for ourselves and a little bit for our family and friends. Growing and processing coffee is labor intensive so were stingy when it comes to sharing it! I do however love this Kona Coffee Rub so much that I am willing to use some of our precious coffee. The ground coffee gives this rub an earthy taste and pairs well with the Kona Coffee Barbeque Sauce.
Ingredients
1 cup fresh ground Kona Coffee
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup smoked paprika
3 tablespoons coarse salt
1 teaspoon each ground cinnamon, ground allspice, ground red Hawaii chili peppers, black pepper and granulated garlic
Instructions
Mix all ingredients in a bowl with a whisk. When fully incorporated store in a well-sealed container in a dry space. Makes about 1 1/2 cups. Use to rub your favorite meat! We use it on a pork shoulder and smoke in our electric smoker. We use either Kaiwi (mesquite) or guava wood in our smoker. Ono Licious!
This Kona Coffee Barbeque Rub sounds absolutely delicious! The rich, earthy flavor of ground coffee must add such a unique depth to the seasoning. For those in Barista Training, exploring coffee beyond the cup like in rubs and sauces is a great way to appreciate its versatility. Can't wait to try this with some grilled dishes!
