Homemade Kona Kahlua (Coffee Liqueur)
Back in the day, making Kahlua was a thing. It was probably the first flavored liqueur I made when I was old enough to buy alcohol. I remember I use to put a vanilla bean in sugar to flavor it and would use vodka in my homemade Kahlua. Fast forward to when we bought our farm and are growing our own coffee, I decided to revisit the recipe which I hadn’t made in 30+ years. After doing a little research, I decided to use spiced rum instead of vodka and it was incredible!
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups hot strong brewed Kona coffee
1 cup sugar
1 cup spiced rum
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
Instructions
In large pitcher, stir the sugar into the hot coffee until it dissolves. Let cool to room temperature and add the vanilla extract and spiced rum. Stir well to combine. Let rest 24 hours for best flavor, but I’ve been known to taste test early. Great just sipped or add to your favorite coffee. Check out the blog for drink recipes using it!
