(a/k/a Coffe Margarita)

This was inspired by Monika's Lava Juice.* I was thinking about what I could do with it in a cocktail. I thought of spicy and Mexican so a margarita came to mind. Now this was a real stretch for me because I only drink hot coffee and I usually stick to a basic margarita on the rocks with salt. I tried a fruity margarita and liked it so I figured why not venture out a little. This is a coffee-flavored margarita with a little kick, some nutty flavor and a little cream. It was surprisingly better than I expected! It has the perfect balance of sweet and spicy and the alcohol should cancel out any affects of the caffeine. I had no trouble sleeping (you could always use decaf too). Hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients

  • 2 Shots cold Kona brewed coffee (or any kind - decaf or regular)

  • 2 Shots Tequila (your favorite)

  • 1 Jigger of Frangelico (Italian Hazelnut liqueur)

  • 1/4 teaspoon of Lava Juice*

  • Splash of 1/2 & 1/2

  • Rim: Coffee grounds, sugar & cinnamon

  • Cinnamon stick for garnish

Instructions

Rim a margarita glass using either honey or an orange then dip rim with equal parts, coffee grounds, sugar & cinnamon

In a shaker of ice, add coffee, Tequila, Frangelico, Lava Juice and a splash of 1/2 & 1/2 and shake well (about 30 seconds)

Pour into a margarita glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick

* Lava Juice – it’s easy to make! Just soak several small red chili peppers in vodka for several weeks, shaking from time to time. Strain out the chili peppers and store in an air tight bottle.
