I went to our local vintage shop – Déjà Vu in Kealakekua just south of Kona -- and bought a cool vintage candle holder. Michael, the shopkeeper, didn’t know the history behind it, and I haven’t been able to find anything on the web. All is know is that it is very cool and makes me picture a old, dark tiki bar with a dancing light in the middle of the table. Cue the Frank Sinatra’s song “Luck be a Lady Tonight” in your head. A special night deserves a special drink!! I love martini’s and this one is especially delicious. Pomegranates are a unique and hard to find item (if you don't have them growing on your property), but the ready-made juice is available at any grocery store. We debuted this drink during happy hour on the beach for our friend Ann’s birthday. Great times!

Ingredients

  • 2 shots chilled gin

  • 2 shots pomegranate/lilikoi simple syrup (made from local fresh fruit)

  • 1/2 shot lime

Instructions

Mix all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake for about 30 seconds (this allows the liquid to get very cold). Pour in martini glass. Slowly pour about 1/2 a shot of cherry juice down the inside of the glass (I use Surinam cherry juice, but maraschino cherry juice works just fine). The cherry juice settles to the bottom for an ombre effect. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and lime wedge.
